Feature: 1. The wiring of this voltmeter is simple. The conventional two wires are used, the red is connected to the positive, the black is connected to the negative, and the reverse connection is protected.
2. Conventionally, no external working power supply is required, and the measuring voltage can be directly operated. The measuring voltage range is two-wire 2.50-30V, three-wire 100V.
3. Wide voltage operation, red 2.50V low and safe pressure up to 40V, more than 40V may be damaged.
4. When measuring voltages below 10V, two digits are displayed after the decimal point; when measuring voltages above 10V, one digit is displayed after the decimal point.
Measuring range
Two-wire DC2.50~32.0V / three-wire DC0-100V
Power supply range
No need to supply power separately. The measured voltage <40V, higher than 40V may be damaged.

According to the "Features" section it does. Here's what is says (I think it applies to the 2-wire low voltage version only): 1. The wiring of this voltmeter is simple. The conventional two wires are used, the red is connected to the positive, the black is connected to the negative, and the reverse connection is protected.

If it has only 2 wires, and you connected the red to + and the black to - then you could have a defect. Most likely you have it connected backwards. I would suggest you confirm the voltage and polarity with a Volt meter. If it reads more than 40 volts you may have destroyed it.

Q:
so the 500v 3 wire version can measure dc voltage up to 500 volts?

There is now a wiring diagram as part of the listing. The 3 wire version with yellow lead requires a separate power source for the meter itself. That lead is used if the voltage to be measured is 28 volts.
